So recently I've been wondering about how to take a POS out. I'm currently on my way to getting a dreadnought to be stationed in a system, to take it out. However, I do not know "that" much about capitals and that is one of the reasons as to why I am asking for some advice. How much can a dreadnought withstand from the POS in siege mode? How much does it cost to put a dreadnought in siege? I was also wondering about how many, and what types of ships I should have in my fleet, as supporting cover, as I know the dreadnought would be a sitting duck if I didn't have a supporting fleet. Any help would be much appreciated! Attacking a POS isn't meant to be a solo activity. You *could* pull it off solo if the POS had no offensive weaponry of any kind and the owner didn't care. Other than that, it's practically impossible to kill it solo.
If you want this thing dead, bigger ships aren't necessarily the answer. Large numbers of players are what typically do it. The more players are shooting the POS, the faster it dies. Heavier weapons means the POS dies even faster.
Typically you'll have a fleet of players come in to incapacitate the guns and POS offensive modules. Then you have your main fleet come in to start firing on the POS itself. That is the time for Dreads to step in. After offensive mods are down, not before.
Then you'll need several players acting as scouts in neighboring systems and possibly a little further out. Their job is not to engage hostiles but to report back if a hostile fleet is heading their way.
Assuming all is going well, when the POS reaches 25% shields it goes into Reinforcement Mode. It makes it so nobody can target the POS and this mode lasts for as long as 36 hours (depending on how much stront the POS owner put into the thing). Your PvP fleet then goes home and waits for the timer to wind down.
This gives the POS owner ample time to assemble a defense fleet and prepare for the return of your PvP fleet
Once the timer on the POS is complete, your PvP fleet returns and repeats the entire process listed above again, taking extra precautions because the POS owner knows when you'll return to finish the job. There's a very high likelihood that a significant fight will break out at the POS.
That is what you're going up against. You can't just warp in with a single dread and take out a POS on your own. Trolling is like art. Anyone can finger paint, but it takes true talent to create a masterpiece. |
